Plumbing permits in Corpus Christi
Corpus Christi's homeowner guide says a plumbing permit is needed to install a gas or electric water heater, add water lines or connect to sewer lines. Clearing stoppages and stopping leaks do not need one. (source: City of Corpus Christi Development Services)
Homeowners doing their own mechanical, electrical or plumbing work on their homestead may apply for a trade permit. New or altered natural gas systems must be permitted and installed by a state licensed plumber. To check whether a contractor is registered with the city, call 361-826-3240. Statewide rules that apply here
Texas plumbing licenses come from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners (TSBPE). There are four license types: Tradesman Plumber Limited, Journeyman Plumber, Master Plumber and Plumbing Inspector. Licenses renew every year, and every licensee needs six hours of continuing professional education to renew. (source: Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners)
A property owner does not need a plumbing license to do plumbing in the property owner's homestead (Occupations Code 1301.051). Your city can still require a permit and inspection. (source: Texas Legislature)
